The Filipino Centre

Toronto Building

The Beginning

The Filipino Centre Toronto (FCT) was founded in 2000 as a non-profit organization at a time when the Filipino community in Toronto was rapidly growing. The vision was clear: to create a hub where Filipinos could gather, celebrate their rich cultural heritage, and support each other in their new home. It was a dream that brought together community leaders, volunteers, and philanthropists, all united by their desire to give back to their community.

Early Years

In the early years, FCT operated out of a small rented office in downtown Toronto. Despite limited resources, the center quickly became a beacon of hope and a symbol of unity for Filipinos in the Greater Toronto Area. The founders organized cultural events, language classes, and support services, aiming to foster a sense of belonging and pride among Filipino Canadians.

Growth and Expansion

As the Filipino community continued to grow, so did the needs and ambitions of the FCT. By 2002, the center had moved to a larger facility Toronto's Cabbagetown. In 2017, they moved to Scarborough allowing for the expansion of its programs and services. The new location became a vibrant venue for cultural festivals, educational workshops, and community gatherings. Partnerships with local businesses, government agencies, and other cultural organizations further strengthened FCT’s impact.
